Born in Baltimore in 1960, and raised in Ellicott City, MD, I moved to Olympia, WA in 1978. In 1980 I relocated in Seattle where I studied Fine Art and Design at the Cornish Institute.
I am a mixed media artist who produces abstract mosaics, assemblage, drawings and paintings. My artwork is characterized by patterning – a field of China tile in a mosaic, motifs floating in space in pencil, shapes suspended in an environment. Mosaics include shards, hand-cut from plates, mixed with other elements. Quilt block mosaics with irregular lines and areas are influenced by the Gees Bend Quilts. Assemblages feature various items selected for their shape and color mounted on larger “tiles”, shapes cut from hardback book cover remnants, door skin or plywood. The inclusion of found items with an unknown history, intrigues me. Recycling and regeneration factor into my artwork.
